Nabil El Makhloufi
The upheavals of the Arab World propose major changes for not only the world at large but for the everyday people who find themselves lost in such conflicts, creating for them a life of uncertainty. Living in Leipzig, Moroccan painter Nabil El Makhloufi captures the scenes of such a precarious life. His paintings illustrate a reserved aloofness with his subjects often waiting, searching, yet remaining undefined.
El Makhloufi has the aptitude to synthesise Leipzig School painting with the philisophical traditions of Sufism, a tolerant, mystical worldview that existed long before the rise of Islam, a philosophy that has enriched and influenced him vitally.
