Sacred art by contemporary artists is still exceptional. Mostly, the interventions in existing churches are limited to details. The fundamental artistic restructuring of Sankt Ägidien (Saint Giles) in Bernburg, however, is unique.
Since 1970, the Bernburg castle church was bereft of all decoration. Over the past decade, Moritz Götze developed an iconographic program based on the Bible. It's protagonists are contemporary - the Christian idea is translated into the present. The artist designed the church completely new, using the technique of enamel painting.
